Drew Clark
Drew Clark joined the faculty of Auburn University in 1982 and holds the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of English, where he long taught courses on English Renaissance literature and on the Bible. He became the University's Director of Assessment in 2001 and Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment in 2004. As Director, he is responsible for promoting and coordinating research-based planning, evaluation, and improvement processes throughout the University. He serves as a peer evaluator for the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Yale University. Iryna Johnson
Associate Director for Assessment
Iryna Johnson joined the office in 2008. Her primary responsibility is to coordinate, support and advance the University’s program- and unit-based assessment activities, serving as a resource for faculty on all matters related to the assessment of student learning. Prior to joining the office Iryna worked in offices of institutional research at Indiana State University and Indiana University-Bloomington. Her recent conference presentations, research papers, and publications are in the area of institutional research. Her 2009 paper entitled “Class size and student performance at a public research university: A cross-classified model” was selected as the winner of the Charles F. Elton Best Paper Award by the Association for Institutional Research. She holds a Candidate of Sciences degree (equivalent to the Ph.D.) in Sociology from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Matthew Campbell
Senior Institutional Research Analyst
Matthew Campbell started in the office in 1997 as a Graduate Research Assistant before leaving to serve the IR office at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Returning to OIRA in 2005 as an Institutional Research Analyst, Matthew provides information support in the areas of enrollment management, student and academic affairs, and physical space management. He earned a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Auburn University in 2002, conducting research on the academic performance of junior college transfers. Matthew has served as a Member-at-Large on the ALAIR Executive Board, and as co-chair of the AIR Computing and Technical Support Committee. Zhonglan (Lisa) Zhang
Information Technology Specialist V
Lisa Zhang joined the office in April 2008. As an IT specialist, her main responsibility is to develop and maintain database systems used to extract and store data from university-level information systems for official university reporting. She also maintains the departmental web site and provides technical support to departmental staff. She holds the degree of Master of Science in Computer Science from Lamar University (1999) and in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota (1994). Her Bachelor of Engineering is from Tsinghua University in Beijing (1990). Before she joined Auburn University, Lisa has had ten years IT work experience as a computer programmer/analyst in Health Care, Information Technology, and Chemical Manufacturing Industry. Karen Battye
Institutional Research Analyst III
Karen Battye began working in the office in 2010. As an Institutional Research Analyst, Karen provides information and data collection support for the university’s web-based fact book. She also is responsible for data collections associated with various college guides, surveys and publications. Karen has a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Amanda Decker
Administrative Support Associate I
Amanda Decker joined the office in 2012 as Administrative Support Associate. Acting as a point of contact for the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, she handles incoming request for data and supplies basic information about office operations.
